The above photo was my color inspiration for this project. You can do the same thing at home by gathering the fall décor you will be using this year and then simply grab paint colors that coordinate.
To begin, I painted the backer portion of the project using the color Cucumber Ice.
I used a paint brush for this step.
Next, I added a layer of Tobacco Road Gel Stain to the frame portion of the project.
When using gel stain, I normally apply with a clean damp cloth.
Next, I began adding color to the leaves using a makeup sponge.
I used four of the new Dixie Belle Chalk Paint colors plus a few old favorites.
Here’s a quick rundown of what I used on the leaves
- Leaf 1 – Weeping Willow & Secret Path
- Leaf 2 – Cottage Door & Terracotta
- Leaf 3 – Tabacco Road & Terracotta
I did add in a tiny bit of Colonel Mustard in spots as well. You’ll want to play with the colors until you achieve the look you’re going for. It’s also important to know that when I added colors, I also misted the area and blended with my fingers.
For the word autumn I used Copper Gilding Wax that I applied using my finger.
Once all of the paint is applied and dry, I used a quick adhesive to glue everything in place.
I also added a layer of Tobacco Road Gel Stain to the back to give it a more finished look.
And here’s my final project!
This one is perfect for Fall!
