What you’ll need to make my Bumble Bee Tiered Tray Décor:
- Bee Body Wood Cutout
- Tobacco Road Gel Stain by Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Daisy Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Anchor Silk All-In-One-Mineral Paint
- Hand Sander
- Wired Ribbon, Pom-Pom Ribbon or Fabric
- Gorillas Super Glue
This project starts with a Bee Body Wood Cutout from Twin Knobs Woodworks. You can purchase the Bee Body HERE.
Begin by staining the entire bee with Tobacco Road Gel Stain from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint.
To apply the stain, I add a bit to the surface and then rubbed it in using a clean cloth.
Be sure to cover all sides of the bee.
Let the stain dry.
Next, use the Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in the color Daisy and Silk All-In-One-Mineral Paint in the color Anchor to paint the bee.
Start by using the color Daisy to paint the body portion of the bee onto the wood cutout.
Once dry, add a second layer of the yellow paint.
Next, use the color Anchor to paint the face portion onto the bee.
Then, use the same color to add a few stripes to the body.
Add a second layer of the black paint, if needed and let dry.
Once dry, use a hand sander to distress the bee to your liking.
Now it’s time to add the wings!
For one of my bees, I used wired ribbon for the wings. I decided to use wired ribbon so I could manipulate the wings. As you can see, I took a piece of ribbon, tied a knot in the middle and then used scissors to shape the ends of the “wings”.
For my other bee, I used a pom-pom ribbon to create the wings. You could also use material that has been cut into strips and tied in a knot for the wings. Get creative!!
Here’s what both of my bees look like displayed on my bee themed tiered tray.
This DIY was super easy and the bee theme is just perfect on my tray!
