Supplies you’ll need:
- 2×4 block cut to 7 3/4 inches tall
- Wooden Mug Cutout
- String
- Ribbon
- Pom-Poms
- Heart Button
- Soft Pink Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Fluff Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Dixie Belle Tobacco Road Voodoo Gel Stain
- Makeup Sponges
- Paint Brushes
- Hot Glue Gun
- Hot Glue
As mentioned above, I started with a 2×4 block that I cut to approximately 7 3/4 inches tall. This will give us the base for our craft.
PRO TIP: Using small pieces of 2×4 boards as a base for your home decor projects is a great way to use up scraps. These small blocks of wood also stand up nicely on their own, making them great filler pieces for all of your vignettes.
To begin, I used the color Fluff to paint a base coat on the entire block of wood.
Once my base coat was dry, I added a thin layer of the Tobacco Road Voodoo gel with a cloth. You aren’t looking for full coverage here, just a light stained effect on the surface of the board. To do this, simply apply a layer of the gel stain and wipe it back until you have achieved the desired look.
While my board was drying, I applied a layer of the Soft Pink Dixie Belle Chalk Paint onto the surface of the wooden mug cutout.
Once the board and mug cutout were both dry, I used a makeup sponge and a bit of the Tobacco Road Gel Stain to add some shading around the edges of both pieces.
Have a light hand with this step or skip it if you don’t like the look.
Now it was time to glue my mug to the board. I placed the mug toward the bottom of the board so that there was plenty of room for the pom poms and ribbon.
Next, add your ribbon and glue on the pom poms.
This Valentine’s Day craft turned out to be so cute!!
I decided to make another one using the Sprinkled With Love Transfer from Chalk Couture instead of the heart button. To give it a bit of a unique look, I also used my router to add a decorative edge on the top of the 2×4. You can get more details on how to add Chalk Couture Transfers to your projects HERE.
