Supplies you’ll need for this DIY:
- Stars & Stripes Kit
- Fluff Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Bunker Hill Blue Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Barn Red Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Tobacco Road Voodoo Gel
- Gorilla Super Glue
- Paint Brushes
- Makeup Sponges
You can find the kit that I used for this project HERE. The kit contains the following:
- Stars & Stripes Words – 1/4″ MDF
- 5 – 1 1/2″ x 1/4″ MDF Stars
- 2 – 3″ x 3/4″ Pine Stars
- 1 – 6″ x 1 1/2″ Pine Star
- 2 – 6 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ Framed Pine Signs
- 1 – 4 1/2 x 4″ x 3/4″ Unframed Sign
Kits like the one I used for this project make DIY so easy. For this project, all you need to do is paint all of the pieces and glue them together.
To start, use the Voodoo Gel Stain in Tobacco Road to stain the frames and the edge of the large star. Let dry.
Then, use the Dixie Belle Chalk Paint color Bunker HIll Blue to paint the medium star, small block, the inside of the 1 framed sign and the work “stripes.” Let dry.
When painting the words, be sure to cover the sides. Use a small detail brush to make this part easier.
Now, use the Dixie Belle Chalk Paint color Fluff to paint the mini stars, the ampersand and the inside of the other frame. Let dry.
Be sure to paint all of the areas of your project that will be seen.
Finally, use the Dixie Belle Chalk Paint color Barn Red to paint the front of the large star, the entire small star and the word “stars.” Let dry.
I like to use a makeup sponge when painting stripes on a surface. Be sure to use a pouncing technique to help avoid bleed through.
Now it’s time to assemble it all!
I used Gorilla brand super glue to attach the words, ampersand and stars as shown in the photos below. You’ll also want to tack the frames onto the bases of wood if you don’t want them to move.
