This project starts with a double sided sign kit from Twin Knobs Wood Works. You can see that it comes with the cutouts for each side plus the round base that the cutouts will be placed on.
It also comes with pre-drilled holes for hanging. These holes can also be used to line up the letter cutouts once finished.
Begin by painting both sides of the round. I painted one side with the color Anchor and the other with the color Salt Water.
You may need to sand the surface of the round to remove any roughness before you being applying paint.
Next, use the color Anchor to paint the words “Trick Or Treat”. I use a makeup sponge to paint small cutouts.
Next use the colors Pistachio, Amethyst and Florida Orange to paint the candy pieces as shown below.
I also went in and added some extra details with a small brush.
The handle of a small paint brush works great for making small dots.
Next, I added some splashed paint to the white side of the round using a tooth brush.
To create this effect, load the toothbrush with paint and then use your thumb to splash the paint onto the surface.
I added both the color Amethyst and Florida Orange.
Next, I prepped the other set of cutouts by lightly sanding.
Then, it was time to add color. I used the color Pistachio for the pumpkin’s stem and Florida Orange for the face.
Then, I went in with the color Sea Salt and painted the words “Out Of Candy”.
Once everything is painted, let dry.
This is what the “Out Of Candy” sign looked like after paint – but you know me, I’m a lil extra!
So I decided to add some glitter!
To add glitter to the letters, I simply sprayed each one individually with a Satin Clear Coat. I put tape down for them to sit on so they didn’t fly off the table while I sprayed them.
Then, just dip each one into the glitter lightly making sure they are covered equally.
After they were all dipped I placed them back on the tape and sprayed them with clear to “try” and keep the glitter mess to a minimum.
And this is the final look!
This looks great on it’s own or styled with other Halloween décor.
PRO TIP: When I was deciding on color, I used the colors of the ribbon I had on-hand for inspiration. Then when I was finished, I narrowed it down to what I felt worked best for each piece.
