Supplies you’ll need to decorate a fall lantern:
- Beaded Wooden Lantern Set
- Wood Tags
- Coral Floral Bundle
- Spanish Moss
- Floral Foam
- Glue Gun
- Mesh Burlap Wired Ribbon
- Orange Burlap Wired Ribbon
- Raffia
- Battery Operated Candle
This project starts with an undecorated lantern. You can see that the one I used does not have sides, but you could do something similar with one that does.
Begin by cutting a piece of foam to fit the inside of the lantern. I used some from a shipping box I had, but floral foam would work great for this too.
Next, make sure the piece of foam fits the space and grab some Spanish moss.
Apply hot glue to the top and edges of the foam.
Then place the Spanish moss onto the foam, making sure to press it into the glue.
Be sure to cover all sides of the foam with moss, but not the bottom. You want it to lay flat on the bottom of the lantern.
This is what it should look like once the Spanish moss is applied.
Next, cut stems from the floral bush you have chosen to use.
Then begin poking the stems into the moss covered foam. I add a stem, turn my piece, add a stem, turn my piece and so on, as I want it to be pretty on all sides.
Here I added last weeks pumpkin project to the center and then I placed it on my pillar candle holder. Check out the Pumpkin Project HERE.
Here’s a look at all four sides of the finished lantern. As you can see, it looks good from all angles!
Below I swapped out the pumpkin for a battery operated candle. You really can take this project into multiple directions depending on your style.
