This project started with two wood sign blanks from Twin Knobs Woodworks.
Fort this project, we are going to paint and stencil both of them. Then, we will layer them on top of one another to finish out the sign.
For the stenciling portion of the project, we will be using Chalk Couture. Chalk Couture is a simple way to add stenciled details to any project!
Let’s get started by adding a base coat of color to each wooden sign blank.
For the middle round section, I used Tobacco Road Gel Stain from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint. To use this product, simply add some to your surface and apply with a clean cloth.
Next, take the larger wood blank and paint it using the color Burlap from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint.
Once both surfaces are dry, you can add the details using Chalk Couture.
For both parts of this sign, I used the “Sweet Fall” Transfer from Chalk Couture. Stenciling with Chalk Couture is easy! All you do is place your transfer on your surface, apply a thin even layer of Chalkology Paste and then remove the transfer from the surface.
I used the color Shimmer Olive for the detail at the bottom and then layered the colors Dune and Shimmer Harvest for the wording.
To layer your Chalkology Paste, first add the base color and let dry. Then apply your transfer again and add your next layer of paste.
You can see that I placed my transfer a bit lower for the second layer of paste. This added a bit of character to the words.
Next, it’s time to add the leaves to the larger wood blank.
To add this detail, use coordinating colors in a random pattern. Feel free to use any combination of colors that coordinate with your project.
This is the larger portion of the sign all finished. I think it’s pretty enough to use on it’s own!
Below you can see the finished project with both pieces glued together. Feel free to use whatever adhesive is best for how you will be using your sign.
This would make an amazing door hanger too. It is the perfect size and so welcoming!
