Supplies you’ll need to recreate this DIY Wood Family Sign:
- Sign Base, “Family” Cutout & Frame – Kit COMING SOON!!
- Caviar Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Cotton Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Dixie Belle Tobacco Road Voodoo Gel Stain
- Paint Brush
- Wood Glue
- Nail Gun
- Wreath – COMING SOON!!
I began with a blank wooden base that had diagonal lines etched into the surface.
To begin, I painted the wood base using the color Cotton from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint. You can add as many coats as it takes to achieve your desired coverage. Let dry.
Next, you’ll need to paint the wood “Family” cutout. For this step, I used the color Caviar from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint. You’ll want to use a smaller brush for this part of the project and be sure to cover all of the nooks and crannies in the cutout. Let dry.
Now it was time to paint the frame. I used Dixie Belle Voodoo Gel stain in the color Tobacco Road for this step. When applying the gel stain, put the product on the wood with a clean cloth by rubbing it into the surface. Be sure to wipe away any excess. You can also add additional layers of the gel stain to achieve a darker final color. Let dry.
Now it’s time for assembly!
Finally, assemble the sign using wood glue for attaching the “Family” cutout and a nail gun to tack on the frame. I added a piece of string to hang a wreath at the top of mine. This is an extra step that you can skip if you’d like.
You could also add a hook to hang your wreath. This will allow you to easily change out the wreath with each season.
