Supplies you’ll need to create your own gold Valentine’s Day decor:
- Wood Block
- Wood Heart Cutout
- Morocco Dixie Belle Stencil
- Tea Rose Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Buttercream Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Dixie Belle’s Gold Gilding Wax
- Paint Brush
- Stencil Brush
- Wood U Bend Keyhole #990
- Gorilla Super Glue
- Lace or other embellishments
Start by painting the wood block with the color Tea Rose.
Be sure to paint the front, back and sides of the block. Let dry.
Next, add gilding wax lightly to a stencil brush while gently holding the stencil in place.
Then add wax in a circular motion with a light hand until the entire surface is covered.
Now it’s time to embellish the heart cutout.
Start by painting the entire surface with the color Buttercream. Let dry.
Once the paint is dry, use what’s left of the gold wax on the brush from earlier and with a very light hand apply a bit of wax on the heart.
Next, use watered down stain with a sponge brush to age the edges of the heart and the wood block.
After applying the stain, wipe it back and re-apply until you have achieved the look you are going for.
You can see here how I only added the stain to the edges of the heart to give it an aged appearance.
Also, add gilding wax to edges of the heart before you glue it on with gorilla glue to the wood block.
Finally, it’s time to work with the Keyhole embellishment.
First, paint the keyhole with the color Buttercream.
Once dry, add gold gilding wax to the high spots on the lock.
To finish up, glue the Keyhole to the heart.
PRO TIP: Be sure to heat the Wood U Bend Keyhole with a heat gun or blow dryer so that you can manipulate the product. If you do not heat it before you try and use it it will split and break.
Once the heart is glued to the wood block, embellish your gold Valentine’s Day decor with lace or ribbon.
Now you can add your piece into your vignettes!! What an easy and lovely way to bring some Valentine’s Day joy to your home.
