This is what you’ll need to make your own HOME Porch Sign:

What’s in the porch sign kit?

This kit is cut from 1/4″ MDF and includes the 8″ tall letters H, M, E and a botanical style wreath to place where the O goes.  The wreath is approximately 10 1/2″ in diameter.  Also included are MDF faux Strap Hinges 10″ long and 1 1/8″ at the widest point.  Make your own HOME Porch Sign with this DIY kit!

Not included in this kit is 1 – 48″ 1 x 12.  This is something you can pick up at your local hardware, lumber yard or big box store.

Before I began painting everything, I decided to make the board look like faux shiplap.  You can also achieve this look by using 3 pieces of of 1 x 4 that measure 5 ft tall each.  If you go with the 1 x 4 method, be sure to use a center cross piece on the back to keep it from bowing.Make your own HOME Porch Sign with this DIY kit!

Next, I painted the entire base of the sign with the color Fluff from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint.

Next, paint all of the sign pieces.

Since the kit pieces are made from MDF, I decided to spray paint all of the pieces first and then add a coat of paint.

For the wreath portion of the sign, I first added a layer of clear coat spray paint.  Then, I used the color Evergreen all over with a bit of Colonel Mustard blended in to create dimension.

For everything else, I used black spray paint because that is the color that my letters were going to be, but you could also use a clear coat to achieve the same thing.

You will need to paint the front and sides of all the pieces and then let dry.

Once dry, lightly sand and add a coat of Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in the color Caviar.

Now it’s time to assemble your sign!

To get the letter spacing even, I used a scrap piece of wood.  I started at both ends and then worked my way to the center.

Then I glued all of the pieces in place.  I used a combination of Titebond and Gorilla Super Glue to achieve a long bond and quick hold.

I also secured the letters with the nail gun just to be sure they don’t move.

For the Faux Strap Hinges, I drilled a pilot hole in the cross piece and used a screw long enough to catch the big board but not go through it.
