Make your own last name door hanger to match your home décor! This one is super simple because it comes ready to paint & hang.
My daughter and son-in-law just purchased their first home, so I decided to make them a personalized last name door hanger to celebrate the occasion. The one I used is from Twin Knobs Woodworks and comes together super quick. Let me show you how I painted and finished it below.

Supplies you’ll need to make your own last name door hanger:
- Personalized Door Hanger
- Tobacco Road VooDoo Gel
- Kudzu Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Fluff Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Makeup Sponges
- Spray Bottle
- Water Wipes
- Starbond Medium Instant Adhesive
This project began with a last name door hanger from Twin Knobs Woodworks. You can order your own HERE.
Next, grab the colors you are going to use to paint the door hanger. I went with my favorite gel stain color plus a white and green colored paint from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint.
I wanted the green paint to go on more like a stain, so I used water wipes to apply it. When “staining” with paint and water wipes, you’ll want to load a bit of paint onto the wipe and then rub it onto the surface. This will give coverage similar to a stain with the wood grain showing through.
Then I used a makeup sponge to paint the last name and “Est. 2019” cutouts with the color Fluff.
Finally, I used Tobacco Road gel stain on the shiplap overlay. To create a lighter finish, I used my spray bottle and a rag to thin out the stain as I applied it.
Once all of the pieces are dry, use your favorite glue to assemble.
This is what it looked like once all of the pieces were glued in place.
I decided to add a bow for a little extra flair. Learn how to make an Upcycled Spindle Wreath Stand like the one picture below HERE.
I think the new homeowners are going to love it!
