Supplies you’ll need to make a Merry Christmas Door Hanger:
- 18 inch Large Wood Round
- “Merry Christmas” Cutout
- Fluff Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Putty Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Caviar Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Paint Brush
- Makeup Sponge
- Paper Towel
- Wire Tie
- Gorilla Super Glue
- Ribbon
- Greenery
I started this project with a Large Wood Round measuring 18 inches from Twin Knobs Woodworks. Twin Knobs offers a wide variety of wood craft blanks for hobby crafters and business owners alike. Take a look at everything they have to offer HERE.
Begin by painting the wood round with the color Fluff from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint. Let dry.
Next, you’re going to need to make a “wash” using the color Putty and some water.
I mixed up my “wash” in a small bowl as shown below. To create a “wash” simply pour a bit of paint into the bowl and then add water to thin out the consistency.
Next, use the watered-down Putty to paint the entire surface of the round.
While the paint is still wet, lightly place a paper towel over the surface and rub it. This will remove excess paint and create a texture at the same time.
**Only go over the area once and be careful not to overlap or it will muddy up that area.**
This is what the texture should look like once the paper towel is removed.
While your round dries, grab the “Merry Christmas” cutout and Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in the color Caviar.
Apply a layer of the color Caviar to the cutout using a makeup sponge.
Simply pounce the makeup sponge over the surface until you’ve created the desired finish. Let dry.
.
Next, use Gorilla Super Glue to add the “Merry Christmas” cutout to the surface of your project.
Once the “Merry Christmas” cutout is in place, I drilled a hole at the top of my door hanger that will be used to add a piece of twine for hanging.
Finally, let’s finish off our Christmas door hanger with some embellishments!
I used three coordinating ribbons and some greenery sprigs.
Simply create your bow of choice, place the greenery under the bow and bring it all together with a wire tie. Then, you can attach the entire embellishment piece to your door hanger using adhesive.
Isn’t this a great look! I love the tan, blue and green color combo.
This would also make a great handmade gift for all of your friends and family.
