Here’s what you’ll need to make a Modern Farmhouse “Home” Sign:
- “HOME” Sign Kit
- Tobacco Road Voodoo Gel Stain
- White Magic Voodoo Gel Stain
- Anchor Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint
- Endless Shore Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint
- Paint Brush
- Clamps
- Starbond Medium Instant Adhesive
This is the kit I’ll be using for today’s project. You can see that it comes with a round base, accent edge piece and the “HOME” cutout. It’s important to note that this is not a door hanger kit due to it’s size – it’s 1/2 inch thick and 22 inched round.
Begin by painting the edge piece with the color Anchor. I used a small acrylic paint brush to do this.
NOTE: You’ll want to paint the edge of this piece as well.
Set this aside and let dry.
Next, we will be adding the first layer of stain to the “HOME” cutout.
I used Voodoo Gel Stain in the color Tobacco Road and applied it with a clean cloth. When applying stain this way, protect your hands by wearing gloves.
Now it’s time to paint the base of the sign. You an see below just how thick this piece is.
I used the color Endless Shore for this part of the project.
Add your paint using a medium sized brush.
Once the “HOME” cutout is dry, you’ll be ready to add the next layer of stain. I originally applied Tobacco Road and misted off with water to create a light stain look. Once it was dry, I decided to apply a light (diluted) thin coat of white magic.
I was going for a light stain look that resembles a burlap-ish color.
I think I achieved it!
Now it’s time to assemble the sign!
You can see that I add a thin coat of adhesive to all the pieces and then use clamps to hold everything in place as it dries.
I suggest using smaller clamps spaced evenly across the piece.
Once I had the pieces for the sign base glued together, I realized it looked a bit unfinished.
So, I decided to paint it black. Once painted it looked like one solid piece.
Finally, add some glue to the “HOME” part of the sign and place it on the sign base.
This is the finished product!
I love that this piece has a modern feel, but still fits nicely in with my home décor style.
