Here’s what you’ll need for your DIY sign:
- Couture Boutique Board & Pillar Stand
- Wood Block Sign Blank
- Candlestick
- Tobacco Road Gel Stain
- Oh My Gourd Chalk Couture Transfer
- Eucalyptus Chalkology Paste
- Dune Chalkology Paste
- Papaya Chalkology Paste
- Small Squeegee
- Bow
- Gorilla Super Glue
Sign Idea No. 1
To begin, we are going to stain the board and pillar stand with Tobacco Road Gel Stain.
To do this, simply apply a bit of the gel stain to the surface of your piece and rub in with a clean cloth.
Use the same staining process for both the board and the pillar.
You can see that the stain adds an antiqued look to the otherwise white pieces. If you don’t like this look, simply skip this step and use the pre-painted Board & Pillar Stand as it arrives.
Now, it’s time to add the Oh My Gourd Transfer details.
First apply the transfer to your surface.
Then use Dune Chalkology Paste to add the words “Oh My Gourd” and “I Love Fall”.
Next, quickly move onto adding the gourd detail using the color Papaya and the color Eucalyptus for the remaining transfer details.
BONUS: Scrappy Bow Tutorial
To make a Scrappy Bow, first gather coordinating ribbon and cut to size.
Then, gather your cut pieces into a stack and use a piece of twine to secure them at the middle.
Flip your scrappy bow over and tie a knot in the twine.
Trim your ribbon pieces to your liking. I cut mine at an angle.
Fluff your Scrappy Bow by pulling all of the ribbon pieces apart so it is evenly full on both sides.
You can add a longer piece of ribbon if you’d like your Scrappy Bow to have tails.
Finally, attach your Scrappy Bow to your project using an appropriate adhesive.
There you have it! Sign idea number one is ready for display.
Sign Idea No. 2
For my second sign idea, I used a wood block sign blank and candlestick that I stained using the same Tobacco Road Gel Stain as used above. I also stained the gourd shaped cutout.
Once the cutouts and sign blank are dry, use the same “Oh My Gourd” Transfer to add all the details.
You can see that I used the colors Papaya and Eucalyptus again for this sign.
Isn’t this gourd cutout just adorable. It’s going to add so much texture to our finished piece.
Next, I used a bit of Dune Chalkology Paste to paint the “Gourd” word cutout using a makeup sponge.
Then, I used my transfer and paste to add the final details to the design.
Once everything is dry, glue the gourd shape and the word “Gourd” to the surface of your sign.
Just like that, sign number two is done. This one is a bit more rustic and has some fun texture that the first one doesn’t have!
At this point you are ready to decorate with your sign. Feel free to glue the sign portion to the top of the candlestick OR leave it freestanding and you’ll have the option to use the sign portion on it’s own.
