Round Valentine’s Day Sign Idea #1:
For this version of the sign, you’ll want to start with a blank wood round that has shiplap style grooves cut into it.
You’ll also need your word cutouts. I will be using the words “Love You More” for this sign.
To begin, create a gray color by mixing White Magic and Black Magic Voodoo Gel. Keep mixing until you have achieved the color you want. I was going for a light weathered look.
Use a clean cloth to stain the entire surface with the custom gray color and let dry.
Next, apply clear wax to faux shiplap lines, and in random places on the piece, in order to achieve a peeling paint look.
Now paint over the entire surface with the color Caviar and let dry.
Once the black paint is dry, apply tape to the areas were you added the wax and peel it back to remove the top layer of paint.
Finally, paint the wood letter with the color Fluff and let dry.
Once the letters are dry, attach them to your sign using Gorilla Super Glue.
Here’s a look at the final piece! Isn’t it just perfect placed on an easel!?!
Round Valentine’s Day Sign Idea #2:
For this version of my Round Valentine’s Day Sign, I started by staining the surface with Tobacco Road Gel Stain.
Apply the stain with a clean cloth and let dry.
Next, add the paint color Fluff in the grooves and then wipe back with a damp cloth.
Continue to add more of the paint to the groves, as needed, using the paint on the rag to create a wash effect on the piece. You are trying to make it look cohesive, yet blotchy.
Then lightly dry brush the surface using a very light hand. The idea here is for the piece to look like it was painted at one time then sanded back to reveal the wood.
Next, paint your word cut out with the color Fluff and attach it to your sign using Gorilla Super Glue.
Here’s a look at this one all finished up! This is another great look for those who love distressed farmhouse style decor.
