A set of Small Scalloped Risers is the perfect addition to any area in your home.  These unfinished wood cutouts come in a set of four, and come in two sizes – 5″ and 3.5″.  Let me show you how I finished mine and added a little more height.

You can also choose the option of adding the extender to your order, so you can create taller risers using extras like the Candle Cups I used for this project.  Candle Cups are sold separately.  You can grab the ones I used in the links above.

This is what the Candle Cup looks like up close.  You can see that it has great details that compliment the scalloped details on the risers.

To begin, I used sand paper to slightly round out the sharp edges on the extender.

Next, I used my adhesive to glue the Candle Cup to the extender piece.

I would recommend using wood glue plus a dab of superglue.

Now it’s time to paint everything and let dry before moving on to the next step of distressing.  Here I’m using the color Whitecap by Silk All-In-One Paint.

Once everything is dry, sand to your liking.

You can see I focused the sanding on the edges of my project.

Finally, glue the top and bottom pieces together using the wood glue plus superglue combination.

If you need just a little boost, you can simply paint the scalloped riser pieces, distress them and use them on their own.

Or if you need more height, use the extender piece and candle cup addition to create something that works for you.  Here’s a look at all three height options I created – candle cup plus the extender, candle cup only, and the scalloped riser on its own.

I also created a set using the color Anchor by Silk All-In-One Paint.  Change up the colors on these as you like or need for every holiday and season!
