Here are the supplies you’ll need to make your own set of Mini Corbels:
- The Ashley Mini Corbels from Twin Knobs Woodworks
- Fluff Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- No Pain Wood Stain in the color Walnut
- Dixie Belle Clear Wax
- Paint Brush
- Hand Sander
I began my project with a set of Mini Corbels from Twin Knobs Wood Words. These raw/unfinished Mini Corbels are a great way to add dimension and versatility to your home decor. They are 1 1/2″ thick so they have a chunky look and feel! The set (2 pieces) is cut from solid pine and each piece measures 5 1/2″ x 6″ x 1 1/2″. The center Flour design shown is engraved approximately 1/8″ deep. You can order a set HERE.
Now it’s time to start painting!!
Begin by painting both corbels with the color Fluff from Dixie Belle Chalk Paint. Be sure to paint all of the sides, front and back.
Once the paint is dry, use a hand sander to distress the corbels to your liking. Focusing on the edges of the piece will give it the most authentic look.
Be sure to remove any sanding dust before moving on.
Next, add the No Pain Gel Stain in the color walnut.
Apply a coat and then wipe back the excess until you get the color you like.
Finally, you can go over the entire corbel with some Clear Wax to remove a bit more of the stain and to provide a good layer of protection. This step was actually a happy accident. I didn’t love how dark the stain was, so I tried the wax and it totally removed just the right amount of color!
This is the finished product!!
As you can see, these corbels are a great size and add just right amount of hominess to a space!
