Let’s warm up those cold winter days with a fun and easy wood heart craft just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Today we are going to make a wood heart craft for Valentine’s Day! This project is perfect for anyone who wants to create something unique for the season using only wood, appliques and paint. Let me show you my process below.

Supplies you’ll need for this wood heart craft:
- Heart Shape
- Box Frame
- WUBTR718 WoodUBend
- WUB996 WoodUBend
- Fluff Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
- Tobacco Road Voodoo Gel Stain
- Clear Best Dang Wax
- Tite Bond Wood Glue
- Chip Brush
- Acrylic Brush Set
- Painter’s Tape
You’ll want to begin this project by fitting and cutting all of the appliques for the heart.
As you work through this step, be sure to use a heat gun to warm the WoodUBend appliques every time you have to cut or bend. Skipping this step will cause the product to snap and break.
Feel free to use whatever appliques you want and to place them as you see best fits your surface.
Once all of the pieces were cut, I did a dry fitting to make sure I liked to overall look.
Now it’s time to add stain and paint!
I used Dixie Belle’s Voodoo Gel in the color Tobacco Road to first stain the heart cutout.
Once the heart was dry, I added a layer of the Best Dang Wax in the color Clear.
Then I added a layer of the color Fluff over the top of the stained and waxed surface.
Let the heart dry completely.
While the heart dries, you’ll once again use the Tobacco Road Voodoo Gel Stain to paint all of the applique pieces you cut.
Once the heart cutout is dry, use painter’s tape all over to achieve the chippy look.
Now you can use wood glue to attach all of the appliques to the heart.
Time for the finishing touches!
First, fit and cut the trim appliques to create detail for the frame.
Next, paint all of the trim with the color Fluff.
Once dry, glue the painted trim to the frame.
Then glue the heart to the frame.
All done! Isn’t this the cutest way to celebrate Valentine’s Day?!?
